Medicare Basics

Understanding your Medicare coverage options

Medicare can be confusing, especially with plan options changing from year to year. Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) covers hospital and medical costs, and many people also look at a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan, a Medicare Supplement plan, or a stand-alone Part D prescription drug plan to help fill in coverage gaps. Plan availability, premiums, and benefits vary by county and can change annually, so it's worth reviewing your options during an enrollment period that applies to you.

This page is for general educational purposes and is not connected with or endorsed by the U.S. Government or the federal Medicare program. If you'd like help comparing the Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement, and Part D options available where you live, a licensed insurance agent can walk you through them at no cost and with no obligation to enroll.

Agency Contracting & Multi-Plan Statement

Our licensed agency partners represent Medicare Advantage HMO, PPO, PFFS, and DSNP organizations, and stand-alone Part D prescription drug plans, that have a Medicare contract. Enrollment depends on the plan's contract renewal. Not every agency partner represents every carrier or every plan available in your area.

Enrollment Periods

Enrollment in a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan is generally limited to specific times of the year — including the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7) and the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (January 1 – March 31) — unless you qualify for a valid Special Enrollment Period or are newly eligible for Medicare.

Allowance amounts cannot be combined with other benefit allowances. Limitations, exclusions, and network restrictions may apply.
